Latest News Australia as a Financial Centre - How to Achieve Our PotentialThe Australian Financial Markets Association (AFMA) agrees with the Australian Financial Centre Forum's recommendations in its Report released today, "Australia as a Financial Centre", and strongly encourages the Government to accept the recommendations and to implement them in a timely manner. A competitive, resilient and efficient financial system is central to a successful economy. Australia is well served in this regard but more needs to be done to achieve our full potential. The Report recognises many of the problems encountered by financial services providers and presents a set of measured actions to deliver the international business, quality employment and positive client service outcomes we should reasonably expect from a competitive financial system. 2009 Australian Financial Markets Report (AFMR)Australia's financial markets feel the effects of the global financial crisis The impact of the global financial crisis on Australia's financial markets is measured as overall turnover shows a fall of 16.8%, the first decrease in nine years. However, turnover statistics varied widely across products and sectors as the impacts of the flight to quality and funding constraints were felt over the past 12 months. As well as a wealth of data on financial markets, the Report contains expert commentaries on trends in each product surveyed and reports on both OTC and Exchange Traded markets. Bank Bill Swap Rate (BBSW) SubscriptionEffective 1 October 2009, live Australian Bank Bill Swap Reference Rate (BBSW) data will only be available to subscribers. BBSW provides independent and transparent reference rates for the pricing and revaluation of Australian Dollar derivatives and securities. After reviewing similar benchmark processes around the world, AFMA has decided to limit live access of BBSW to subscribers. 24 hour delayed data will be available free of charge to non subscribers on this website.
