Property Derivatives GuideIn recent years the UK property derivatives sector has witnessed a huge surge in liquidity. Turnover in the UK market jumped 15 fold in the past three and a half years, with GBP3.89 billion (AUD9.7 billion) worth of deals transacted in the six months to June 2007. Exponential growth in the relatively nascent UK commercial Property derivatives market is igniting Australian, European, US and Asian interest. Such global experiences points to local opportunities. As such, in October 2006, AFMA formed a Property Derivatives Working Group with a charter to steer development of the OTC market, by producing standard ISDA® based documentation, market conventions and generally disseminating topical information on the nascent market. As interest in this product stretches to Australia, AFMA is proud to present our members with this educational guide on Property Derivatives. The articles in this Guide have been developed by members of AFMA’s Property Derivatives Working Group who are highly regarded in the industry. We record our appreciation of the continued sponsorship of our Property Derivatives initiatives by GFI, Royal Bank of Scotland, Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, Clayton Utz, RP Data, the Property Council of Australia, and the Investment Property Databank. With the support of these organisations, AFMA was able to host a Congress on Property Derivatives in May 2006. Papers and an audio recording from this important industry initiative are also available. The agenda can be accessed at Property Derivatives Congress.
