About the Speaker
Joy Geary, AML Specialist
Joy is a familiar face in the financial services and compliance arena in Australia. A qualified lawyer, she specialises in advice in the areas of anti-money laundering (AML) and counter terrorist financing (CTF), specifically for the financial services sector. Since May 2007 Joy has trained over 200 people from more than forty Australian organisations on the Australian AML/CTF Act and how to implement AML/CTF Programs.

AML – the Essentials will explore:
- The AML/CTF framework created by the Anti Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act
- Ways to relate the three stages of money laundering (placement, layering and integration) to the money laundering and terrorism financing risk assessment required in AML/CTF Programs
- Differences between money laundering and terrorism financing
- Governance and assurance requirements of an AML/CTF Program
- How the risk-based approach plays a pivotal role in the AML/CTF Program each reporting entity must have
- One example of a simple risk model for customers
- Operational controls of customer acceptance, ongoing customer due diligence (including monitoring)
- Key elements of a suspicious reporting framework

Upon completion participants will have a clear understanding of the requirements of the AML/CTF regime and be well positioned to work in an AML/ CTF role.
