About the Speakers
Mike Eastaway, Training Manager, AFMA
Mike is an experienced Financial Markets professional having been actively and continually involved in many aspects of the Global OTC Wholesale Financial Markets for over 30 years commencing 1977.
Through his experiences Mike has gained intimate knowledge of the workings of all Financial Markets through wholesale trading in large International Banks Globally and possesses a unique understanding of the risks associated with trading and settling of financial transactions. Mike has worked for many large Global Banks in positions from Jnr Dealer to Snr Manager Trading. He has had first hand experience in all aspects of Dealing and running large Trading Portfolios which in return produced consistent financial income for his employers over some 30 years.
Mike has always been involved with market Industry bodies and has been active in producing and delivering Educational Seminars and Courses aimed at training dealers in his local market and over the last 7 years in the International market place.
After 30 years of Trading Mike embarked on a different career and now is a full time trainer in the Financial Services arena both domestically and internationally.
Peter Pontikis, Alternative Investments Management Specialist, ANZ Private Bank
Peter Pontikis is the ANZ Private Bank’s Brisbane based alternative investments management specialist and has close to 3 decades of investment and financial markets experience. A senior fellow of FINSIA he sits on their national policy advisory council. As a CPA, he has sat on its CPA Australia’s Finance and Treasury centre of excellence committee and been a regular columnist for the journal ‘In the black’. He is a director and the immediate past Treasurer of the International Federation of Technical Analysts (IFTA).
Peter’s previous roles have also included Head of Trading & Research for an Australian hedge fund and Senior Financial Markets Strategist for Westpac Investment Bank and until recently was the Group Treasury Strategist for Suncorp. Until the mid 2000s he also ran a consultancy advising Asian central banks and fund managers. He has authored several books on foreign exchange and trading in financial markets and is a regular columnist for the ‘Forex Journal’.
He also has 2 degrees in his other passion; art and literature.
About this program
This is the foundation module of the Financial Markets Accreditation Program and provides a broad guide to the financial markets. The content explores the structure of the various markets and their products, and how they operate. It also covers the important areas of regulation in the financial markets.

- regulatory environment
Workload
The estimated workload for this module includes:
- four-and-a-half hours of workshop attendance
- 10-20 hours of suggested self study
- completion of the skills assessment
- the final exam
Assessment
There are two assessment components for the Financial Markets Core Module:
- Exam. This is a 90-minute online exam with 70 MCQ's.

Skills assessment. An evidence-based skills assessment via the ePortfolio system.
What you receive by completing this module
You will be awarded a Statement of Attainment when this module is successfully completed, as partial completion of the Diploma of Financial Markets FNS51011. To achieve the Diploma, you need to complete at least one Product Specialist Module in addition to this Core Module.
