About the Speaker
Brian Fowler, Consultant
Brian is a private consultant with many years of experience working in banking, investment banking, stockbroking and investment management. He has been involved in all aspects of dealing, managing risk and running large trading and investment portfolios across FX, credit and equities markets.
Brian designed and for a number of years taught a course on equity derivatives in Macquarie University’s postgraduate applied finance programme. He holds a BSc(Hons) from Griffith University, an MEc from the ANU and is currently completing an MA, also at the ANU.
About this program
This module covers the equity and equity derivatives market in Australia.
Candidate who successfully complete the examinations for the Core and Equity Markets modules are eligible for recognition as an ASX Accredited Derivatives Adviser (ADA) Level 1.
What will you learn?
By the end of the module you'll have a good understanding of:
- equity securities, equity markets and equity market participants
- processing equity transactions
- executing trading strategies
- tracking market performance
- using futures and options or warrants strategies
- trading, settling and clearing options and warrants on the ASX
- advising clients in equities, options and warrants.
Workload
The estimated workload for this module includes:
- four-and-a-half hours of workshop attendance (optional)
- 10-20 hours of suggested self study
- completion of the skills assessment
- the final exam.
Assessment
There are two assessment components for the Equity Markets Module:
- Exam. This is a 120-minute online multiple choice exam and has 80 MCQ's.

Skills assessment. An evidence-based skills assessment via the ePortfolio system.
What you receive by completing this module
You will be awarded a Statement of Attainment when this module is successfully completed, as partial completion of the Diploma of Financial Markets FNS51011. If you have previously completed the Core Module, you will then be awarded the full Diploma of Financial Markets. Please note that there are pre-requisite units of competency contained within the Core Module that must first be obtained (either with AFMA or another Training Provider) before receiving the Statement of Attainment.
